Hotel of the Week: London’s First All-Suite Hotel Raises the Bar

The Hyde Park Balcony Suite is the vision of Champalimaud Design.

The Emory has more to offer than nice rooms; it’s a fully holistic experience steeped in luxury from start to finish.

The Emory experience—experience being the significant word—begins from the moment you exit the airport. You’re met by a smart chauffeur who whisks you into central London’s upmarket Knightsbridge district, just down the road from Harrods, in an electric BMW i7. This service—as well as amenities such as a full minibar and personal ‘Emory Assistant’— are included in the room rate in a bid to remove all fuss from a stay.

Guests are encouraged to make themselves at home, which is easy when all rooms are suites, and each one is uniquely designed in a mid-century modern-style, and features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking London’s famous Hyde Park. Each suite has, at a minimum, an incredibly comfortable bedroom and marble ensuite with shower and tub, a living area with sofas and armchairs, and a separate dining area with mini kitchen. They’re extensively outfitted with all accessories you could wish for, from app-filled televisions and Dyson hair styling tools to beautiful kimono robes and clothing-press services on arrival.

The Emory Rooftop Bar, perfect for “landmark spotting”.

Central London has its fair share of spectacular restaurants and spas, but if you’re visiting for a night, there is no need to leave The Emory, which is home to what this editor considers one of the best hotel restaurants in the British capital, abc kitchens. The unassuming eatery brings chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s acclaimed abc brand to the UK for the first time, and guests can enjoy a delicious spread of fresh dishes with a Latin American twist and a vegetable focus—although meat dishes are available. Its contemporary design is also worth a shoutout; the vibrant interiors are by acclaimed French designer Rémi Tessier, while the irrevocable Damien Hirst supplies the artworks.

The subterranean private members’ health club Surrenne, meanwhile, is an oasis of tranquillity beneath the bustle of the city. Set out over four floors and almost 2,000 m², it is home to a gym kitted out with the latest Technogym equipment, a fitness studio by Tracy Anderson with a ‘sprung’ floor, a 22 m pool with daybeds, and amenities including a steam room, sauna and snow shower. The spa is another highlight; here, skilled therapists perform a variety of treatments that have been specially designed by world-leading experts such as Face Gym, Dr. Lara Devgan and LYMA.

For those emblematic London views, head to The Emory’s striking rooftop bar and separate, well-stocked cigar lounge, also designed by Rémi Tessier.

The hotel was opened by the Maybourne group in summer 2024 and is connected at ground level to another Maybourne property, The Berkeley, which guests are also invited to explore. The Emory benefits from a separate main entrance via a beautifully cobbled alley, where the reception area can be found next to a colourful, art-filled courtyard. It’s here that a chauffeur awaits to transport departing guests to their next destination, completing the full-circle Emory experience. Exceptional all round.
