A World Title bout at the casino this Saturday is hopefully the first of many.
The pugilistic arts are heading to Monte-Carlo! This Saturday (4th November), Welshman Joe Cordina will defend his IBF Super Featherweight Championship against American rival Edward Vazquez, in a bout which will put Monaco on the global stage for boxing fans worldwide.
Cordina – who reclaimed the belt in April by beating Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov, following a split decision, having been stripped of it last year – will defend his IBF Super Featherweight Championship against highly-rated American rival Edward Vazquez.
“I have happy memories of fighting in Monte Carlo, landing the WBA Continental Title in my first outing down at Super-Featherweight, and I’m looking to put on another explosive performance on November 4th as I continue to work towards unifying the division,” he says.
Eddie Hearn, chairman of Matchroom Boxing, which is promoting the contest, adds: “It is an honour to be returning to Monaco and the incredible setting of the Casino de Monte-Carlo,” says. “We have been privileged to host events here in the past and it is exciting to be coming back on November 4th for what promises to be a memorable evening of elite, championship boxing.”
More unmissable bouts – including South Africa’s Sive Nontshinga defending his IBF Light Flyweight championship against Mexico’s Adrian Curiel Dominguez and Isaias Lucero’s attempt to take Frenchman Souleymane Cissokho’s WBC Silver Welterweight title from him – will be confirmed in due course.
