Inside the World’s Largest Charter Superyacht

REV Ocean

Science-focused REV Ocean will carry nine laboratories and advanced submersibles.

REV Ocean will also be the most scientifically advanced yacht ever built. Here’s what to expect from this groundbreaking project.

Ten years ago, Norwegian billionaire Kjell Inge Røkke had a dream: to create a totally unique superyacht that would engage the world in ocean science, exploration and solutions. Now, his vision is finally coming to life through REV Ocean, a revolutionary yacht set to launch in 2027. Part superyacht, research ship and icebreaker, the vessel will be filled to the brim with the latest scientific equipment and facilities including nine laboratories and various high-tech submersibles. Currently at Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen in the Netherlands for 15 to 18 months of outfitting, REV Ocean is designed to access the most remote places on the globe.

Presided over by the REV Ocean not-for-profit company and charter-managed by Burgess Yachts, the vessel has pledged to dedicate 75 percent of her voyages to scientific research, with the remaining 25 percent available for exclusive use as a private charter. Charters will offer a unique opportunity for guests to immerse themselves in the wonders of the ocean in a way no other vessel can. From diving deep into the unknown to being part of groundbreaking discoveries alongside scientists in the ocean’s most advanced mission control room, passengers will be a part of history.

“REV Ocean represents a new era in ocean exploration, one where adventure and impact go hand in hand,” says Nina Jensen, CEO of the REV Ocean organisation. “By bridging world-class science with extraordinary expeditions, we are redefining what it means to explore the ocean.”

At 194.9m, REV Ocean will be the world’s largest yacht. Designed by Monaco’s Espen Øino with interiors by H2 Yacht Design, she will feature state- of-the-art research facilities as well as extensive guest amenities including 18 luxurious cabins— one of which is slated to be one of the biggest ever created on a yacht. There will be a 30-seat lecture auditorium-cum-movie theatre, a top observation deck for nature viewing, and various wellness and fitness facilities including two pools and an exploration zone with beach club at sea level.

She will also be packed with kit for underwater excursions including DSV Aurelia—the world’s deepest-diving acrylic submersible—ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) for exploring the seabed, and helicopters.

“This is more than a vessel, it’s a global platform for the most unique guest experiences, filled with ocean discovery, marine conservation and meaningful impact,” says Ben Harwood, sales and charter director at Burgess. “By seamlessly integrating research with expeditions, it sets a new benchmark for how yachting can transform the guest experience, offering unmatched access to the rarest and most extraordinary opportunities.”
