Abeking & Rasmussen Reveals a New Platform for Modern Superyacht Ownership

The shipyard introduces the 70-metre concept yacht ARUBY—a project designed for autonomy, discretion and a faster route to ownership.

Want to buy a new superyacht but don’t want to wait five or even 10 years? Abeking & Rasmussen’s latest release, ARUBY, might have the solution. The 70-metre semi-custom platform is designed to condense decades of shipyard experience into a precise, ready-to-build format, giving prospective owners a “turnkey path to ownership”. Developed in partnership with Reymond Langton Design, the project draws on client demand for efficiency, flexibility and control—without the extended timelines associated with fully bespoke construction.

“ARUBY is our answer to the modern owner’s desire for quality without the typical development lead times,” says Till von Krause, Sales Director Yacht. By working from a pre-engineered platform, the shipyard removes months from the build process while maintaining scope for individual interior expression.

The concept rests on a clear proposition: combine the discipline of a proven technical foundation with the latitude of customisation. At 70 metres and approximately 1,770 gross tons, ARUBY sits within a size category that supports both private use and charter viability, with a general arrangement calibrated for family life, entertaining and operational efficiency.

Technically, the yacht reflects Abeking & Rasmussen’s longstanding engineering pedigree. A diesel-electric propulsion system paired with pod drives ensures quiet operation and stability at sea, while a slim hull form enhances efficiency and comfort. The single-tier engine room configuration consolidates technical space, releasing additional volume for guest areas. A future-fuel-ready setup aligns the platform with evolving environmental requirements.

Interior and lifestyle considerations are equally deliberate. ARUBY introduces what the yard describes as a “new luxury” model—one centred on autonomy and discretion. Service remains highly efficient yet unobtrusive, supported by integrated self-service features that allow guests to move independently between spaces. The onboard programme includes a full-beam beach club, dedicated wellness areas, and workspaces suited to extended stays at sea.

“ARUBY is a turnkey path to ownership,” says Tamara Gramberg, Head of Marketing & Sales Management. “Ready-to-build, there is no prior new build experience needed.” The model reduces complexity for owners while preserving the defining elements of a custom yacht.

Design, led by Reymond Langton, aligns with this positioning. Clean exterior lines and balanced proportions support both presence and usability. As Björn Benecke, Sales Manager Yacht Department, adds: “ARUBY is a semi-custom product with a very cool design… a real beauty and a valuable addition for us as a shipyard.”

ARUBY reflects a shift in superyacht development: a move toward platforms that prioritise time, clarity and technical certainty. Here, ownership begins with a defined structure—and evolves through detail.
