Car of the Year 2025: Best Sports Coupé

The final verdict is in! Blistering speed, astounding beauty, supreme comfort, state-of-the-art tech, undiluted enjoyment—these are the automobiles that wowed our esteemed panel of experts.

Mercedes AMG GT

Following in the footsteps of the long-bonneted, two-seater Mercedes-AMG GT supercar, which first hit the road in 2014, is the more practical but no less potent secondgeneration iteration.

Packing Mercedes’ familiar 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, the new range-topping AMG GT 63 S E Performance deploys plug-inhybrid tech to help make 600 kW and up to 1,420 Nm of torque. The combination of an explosively fast combustion engine coupled to an electric motor and a 6.1 kWh battery, is enough to propel the car to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, making it faster to that magic mark than the AMG One hypercar.

Despite its scintillating performance, our panel was impressed with the new levels of practicality, with two additional seats added to make the GT a four-seater and a generous boot to accommodate long weekends away. With all that, our judges decided the new AMG GT is an exceptional super tourer, making it a match for the Porsche 911 Turbo and Aston Martin DB12.
