A closer look at some of the biggest and boldest performance vehicles scheduled to go on sale in the year to come.
At the beginning of the decade, it was easy to wonder if the old-school supercar’s days were numbered. Nearly every automaker of note had announced plans to at least electrify their lineups if not go all-electric by the end of the decade. Sure, marques like Aston Martin, Lamborghini, and Mercedes-Benz promised that there would still be a place for high-performance automobiles going forward, but if any class of vehicle wasn’t going to survive the electric revolution the supercar might have been it.
Five years later and the supercar with its outrageous looks and boundary-pushing performance, remains alive and well, mostly gas-powered. Drivers, even those with enough money for a six- or seven-figure vehicle, haven’t turned out to be as keen on EVs as the automakers thought. It hasn’t helped that battery-powered cars and SUVs still tend to feel so much less dynamic than their ICE peers. Thanks to this resistance, and pushback on legislation that would have sped the transition to all-electric vehicles, plenty of big brands have walked back their plans and, in some cases, renewed their support (and investment) for combustion engines.
In 2025, there will be plenty of new supercars to choose from, whether you’re in the market for a gas guzzler, a hybrid, or an EV. Here are the 18 models that those who like their vehicles bold and fast will want to look out for this year.
Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale
Alfa Romeo plans to return to the upper echelons of the sports car world with a modern reinterpretation of one of its most famous models, the 33 Stradale. That car’s spiritual successor will be built by Touring Superleggera and features an update of the original’s design with bulbous fenders, a bubble cockpit, and butterfly doors. But what’s most interesting about the vehicle, which shares a platform with the Maserati MC20 (more on that in a bit), is that it will be available with either a traditional gas-powered engine or a fully electric drive unit. Regardless of which powerplant drivers opt for, expect plenty of power and performance. Alfa expects promises the car can reach 62 mph in under three seconds and top out at over 200 mph. The new model promises to be rare, too, with the company having committed to building only 33 examples.

Aston Martin Valhalla
It’s taken a long time getting here, but the Aston Martin Valhalla is finally within sight of the finish line. Aston Martin announced this past December that it will finally begin deliveries of its eagerly anticipated plug-in hybrid in 2025, six years after the vehicle was first teased as the AM-RB 003 concept at the Geneva Motor Show. The car, which you can catch a glimpse of in the 2021 James Bond film, No Time to Die, looks as futuristic as it did back then, but its powertrain has evolved some over the years. The setup, which was developed in conjunction with the automaker’s Formula 1 team, features a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 with three electric motors that combine to put out over 1,000 hp. That’s well over 100 horses more than the British marque promised when they showed off a near-production version of the car back in 2021. Unsurprisingly, the Valhalla will be priced around $1 million and be limited to just 999 examples.

BMW Skytop
One of the most visually striking concepts in recent memory, the BMW Skytop, is slated to go into production later this year. The big story here is the design, of course. The stunning two-seater is based on the current 8 Series convertible but sports a smooth and sophisticated look that sets it apart. We’re particularly fond of the illuminated kidney grilles (which are just the right size for once) and center spine coming off the rear deck lid. Of course, a supercar needs to do more than look good, and while we’re waiting for the official details the signs are that the Skytop will deliver. The reporting so far says that the roadster will be powered by the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 from the M8 Competition. If this does indeed turn out to be the mill, expect an output of around 617 hp and 553 ft lbs of torque. We’re still waiting on the price, but the company’s head of design swears it’s coming.

2025 Chevy Corvette ZR1
Chevrolet is ready to show once and for all that it can build a supercar that can compete with the best Europe has to offer. The new range-topping version of the C8 Corvette, the ZR1, is by far the most powerful factory-built version of the iconic nameplate yet. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V-8 that pumps out a diabolical 1,064 horses. Thanks to all that power, the coupe is the quickest-accelerating ‘Vette and, even more impressively, the fastest series production American car of all time. It also looks the part, thanks to an aggressive body kit that accentuates the C8’s sharp angles and adds a giant rear wing. Best yet, it will be able to compete with Prancing Horse and Raging Bulls despite being priced far lower than them at $174,995.

Ferrari 12Cilindri
For the purists out there, the best Ferraris are those with a front-positioned, naturally aspirated V-12. The model that will take over that spot in the lineup this year is the aptly named 12Cilindri. The follow-up to the 812 Superfast is a grand tourer just like those the marque built its reputation on, but with enough modern flourishes to stop it from feeling like a nostalgic throwback. This includes its sculpted shape and tech-laden interior. The 12-cylinder engine the car takes its name from its pretty special. With a displacement of 6.5-liters, the naturally aspirated mill generates will over 800 horses and is a loud as you’d want a Prancing Horse to be. The $430,000 berlinetta coupe ($475,000 if you opt for the open-top Spider) is also awfully fast, sprinting from zero to 62 mph in under three seconds and reaching a top speed of 211 mph.

Ferrari F80
It takes something special to be considered Ferrari’s halo car. The company’s sixth such model, and immediate successor to the LaFerrari, is the F80. The new flagship is one of the boldest-looking Ferrari’s yet thanks to a low-slung design that incorporates a Daytona SP3-esque headlight visor, F40-style wheel arches, and a set of butterfly doors. Even the interior, with its staggered seating configuration, is sharp. The F80 has plenty of substance to match its style, though. At the heart of this is a hybrid powertrain that features a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 with three electric motors. The fact that the setup is electrified, and engine has six cylinders instead of 12, may ruffle some features, but its performance shouldn’t. The F80 makes 1,184 hp and 793 ft lbs of torque, thanks to which it can rocket from zero to 60 mph in 2.15 seconds and to a top speed of 217 mph. Ferrari of plans to build just 799 examples, of which we imagine it will have little trouble selling, $4 million price tag not withstanding.

Ford Mustang GTD
Chevrolet isn’t the only American automaker set to a launch a supercar in 2025. Ford also has one of its own on the way and just like its longtime Detroit rival it’s based on one of its most iconic nameplates, in this case the seventh-generation Mustang. The new range-topper is called the GTD and is a street version of the company’s current GT3 race car. It’s outfitted in what is easily one of the year’s more extreme aerodynamic packages. New carbon-fiber elements include a vented hood, adjustable front flaps, and a giant, hydraulically controlled rear wing. But just as thrilling as all that is the 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 lurking under the GTD’s hood. The brawny mill pumps out 815 horse, which is 300 more than its track-only counterpart. Thanks to all that oomph, it’s little surprise the car recently became the fastest American-made car in Nürburgring history.

Koenigsegg Gemera
This year will see Koenigsegg do something no one thought the Swedish marque was capable of; build a vehicle with room for the whole family. That’s right, Christian Koenigsegg’s latest creation, the Gemera, is the exceeding rare supercar—or “mega-grand tourer”—that has a roomy cabin, specifically one that can comfortably seat four full-sized adults (it also features two cup holders for each person). Of course, a spacious interior is far from all that’s notable about the ultra-sleek coupe. The Gemera is also powered by a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 paired with a radial-flux electric motor (sadly, a planned three-cylinder version of the car was shelved last year). The duo combines to pump out a hair-raising 2,300 hp. Expect the new model to make it onto the list of the world’s fastest production cars too. The company expects it to hit 60 mph in under two seconds and reach a top speed of 248 mph.

Lamborghini Temerario
When the Lamborghini Temerario officially launches later this year, the Italian sportscar maker’s lineup (which also includes the Aventador and Urus) will be made up entirely of hybrids. Yes, that’s right, one of the marque’s most associated with snarling internal combustion engines has fully embraced electrification (it even has an all-electric model on the way later this decade). The Huracán successor’s 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 may be joined by three electric motors, but it’s still a supercar through and through. Especially as its electrified powertrain makes over 900 horses, making it significantly more potent that any of factory-built versions of its V-10-powered predecessor. That classic Lambo wedge shape and a pair of scissor doors don’t hurt, either.

Lexus LF-R
There’s no car we know less about on this list than the LF-R and that’s exactly what may make it the most intriguing entry. There have been rumors about the hybrid sports car dating back to 2022, when Lexus’s parent company, Toyota, showed off a sporty prototype called the GR GT3 concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon. At the time there were whispers that an eventual production version could be the spiritual successor to the legendary Lexus LFA and they’ve only gotten louder in the years since. Little is known about the car at this point, other than that there is a strong belief that it will feature an electrified 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that makes around 1,000 hp. Luckily we won’t have to wait much longer. The car is expected to make its debut, and maybe even go on sale, sometime this year.

Maserati MC20 Folgore
The Maserati MC20 has been around since the start of the decade, but this year will see the debut of its most intriguing variant yet, the all-electric Folgore. The Italian automaker has already shown it can build a sporty EV with Folgore versions of the GranTurismo and the GranCabrio—the latter of which is the world’s fastest zero-emission convertible—but the upcoming MC20 is easily the most exciting battery-powered model yet. The two-seater retains the ICE variant’s stylish exterior but features a tri-motor electric powertrain, nearly identical to the one in the all-new Alfa Romeo Stradale 33. The MC20’s drive unit will “only” produce 700 hp, compared to the 750 hp made by its cousin, but that should more than enough for any driver out there.

McLaren W1
The McLaren F1 established the blueprint for the modern-day supercar and its latest descendent, the W1, is ready to push things even further. The automaker’s third, once-in-a-generation “1” model is one of the more aggressively styled options in its class, thanks to a sharp aerodynamic design that includes a radical Active Long Tail spoiler coming off the rear. But McLaren knows that a supercar needs to do more than just turn heads, even if the W1 will have little trouble doing that. The vehicle’s all-new hybrid powertrain pairs a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 and a motorsports-grade electric motor and can produce a combined 1,258 hp and 988 ft lbs of torque. With all that power at your disposal, you’ll have be able to hit 60 mph and expect to top out well over 200 mph, which is exactly what you should expect from a vehicle that costs $2.7 million.

Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed
Mercedes-Benz’s first Mythos model, the AMG PureSpeed, looks to be something truly special. The new sub-brand will be made up of ultra-exclusive vehicles that combine the best aspects of its powerful AMG and opulent Maybach models. The AMG Purespeed could go down as one of the more visually striking vehicles of the year thanks to its windscreen-less design, a Formula 1-style halo structure, and a racing-style livery. The interior, which it shares with AMG’s version of the SL roadster, includes two helmets with integrated comm systems that the driver and their passenger can use to communicate with each other at high speed. It may not be the most potent car on this list, but its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 will still pump out 577 horses, which is strong enough to put it to a top speed just shy of 200 mph.

Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram Series
The AMG Purespeed won’t be the only outrageous roadster released by Mercedes in 2025. Maybach’s first two-seater, the SL Monogram Series, doesn’t look much radically different from other version of the nameplate, but a closer inspection tells a different story. The car features a model-exclusive two-tone paint job, an illuminated Maybach grille, and a stunning set of multi-spoke wheels. In this guise, an already stylish vehicle more sophisticated than ever. Because it’s a Maybach it also has an ultra-luxe Crystal White Nappa leather interior that features extra sound-proofing material to ensure a quiet ride. It’s also no slouch, with its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharge V-8 producing well over 500 hp.

Morgan Midsummer
Boutique sports car maker Morgan isn’t the sort of name you’d normally expect to see on a list like this, but its next model, the Midsummer, feels like something all new. The dazzling barchetta is the result of a collaboration between the British marque and Pininfarina. The storied Italian coachbuilder has penned a design that recalls the pre-war roadsters Morgan is so fond of, but still manages to feel modern. The two-seater may end up offering one of the year’s most enjoyable driving experiences as well. That’s because the lightweight vehicle, which weighs in at under 2,200 pounds, is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-six that generates 335 hp, which is enough to push the $215,000 Midsummer to a top speed of 170 mph.

Red Bull RB17
Red Bull is turning some of its attention away from the track in 2025. At last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the F1 team unveiled its first customer car, the RB17. The track-only beast is the brainchild of Adrian Newey, the legendary engineer automotive designer, who completed work on the project for moving to Aston Martin. Unsurprisingly, the RB17 look more like an F1 car tha most of its supercar peers. It wears a curvaceous carbon-composite body that look like it’ll cut through the air with ease. Just as impressive is a naturally aspirated 4.5-liter V-10 that redlines at 15,000 rpm and gets help from an electric motor. Red Bull says the hybrid setup will generate a combined 1,200 horses (we’re still waiting on a torque figure), thanks to which the car can reach a top speed of 217 mph. It may not be able to post a lap time like the RB20 that Max Verstappen drove to the driver’s championship last season, but it will come close.

Tesla Roadster
Supercars, more than other vehicle class, require an automaker to really push itself to its limits. Because of that, things go wrong and vehicles delayed. For proof of this, look no further than the second-generation Tesla Roadster, an all-electric supercar that was first announced all the way back in 2017 and which was supposed to go on sale in 2020. Five years later, we’re still waiting on the EV, but Tesla frontman Elon Musk claims it’s really coming this time. Still, the tech mogul has also promised the Roadster could accelerate to 60 mph in under a second and even hinted that it would be able to fly, so we wouldn’t hold our breath until Tesla announces an actual launch event.

2025 Toyota GR Supra A90 “Final Edition”
Not a supercar per se, but the final version of the GR Supra isn’t something you want to leave off a list like this. Toyota will wave goodbye to the sixth iteration of its beloved sports car in 2025, six years after bringing the beloved nameplate back from the dead. The exclusive model is powered by a specially tuned version of the BMW-sourced B58 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six that generates 429 hp and 420 ft lbs of torque. The car is also only available with a six-speed manual in case there was any question about what kind of driver it is aimed at. Other upgrades include an even louder titanium exhaust, adjustable suspension, and bigger brake calipers. There is only one problem we can see with the Supra A90 Final Edition—it’s currently only destined for Japan and Europe. We have a feeling American enthusiast will hold out hope that this changes up until the moment the last GR Supra rolls of the line.
