Introducing, a slice of London’s tailoring smarts on Madison Avenue.
It’ll be two decades, next year, since Thom Whiddett and Luke Sweeney, having worked together at Timothy Everest, a tailor in Spitalfields, London, broke out and founded their own menswear house, Thom Sweeney. The British duo made their US debut in the SoHo neighbourhood in 2017, and are now making their mark on the Upper East Side.

Located at 761 Madison Avenue, the 4,100-square-foot space offers bespoke, made-to-measure and ready-to-wear in an environment which—which its walnut finishes, blue velvet seating, plush private lounges and an in-house bar, Sol’s (named after Sweeney’s father in law)—has, like the pair’s London townhouse—feels as much like a gentleman’s club as it does a purveyor of understated tailoring and the sharpest apparel available to man.

“This store allows us to offer the full bespoke process in New York,” as co-founder Thom Whiddett puts it, adding that their Savile Row-trained cutter Max Whitaker has relocated from London for a 12-month residency at the store. “Having our Head Cutter here means we can bring that same level of craft here and work closely with clients from the first fitting through to the finished garment.”
