As new-build waiting lists stretch longer than ever, transformed pedigree yachts like HAMPSHIRE are becoming the smartest buy on the water.
For today’s superyacht buyer, the rules of the game have changed. Bigger is no longer the ultimate flex, and with the world’s leading shipyards stretched years into the future, there’s a choice to make: join the queue or find another way in.
Increasingly, the smartest owners are opting for the latter, snapping up impeccably built Northern European yachts and refashioning them for a new era, resulting in a growing appetite for transformation projects that combine old-school pedigree with modern design, technology, and lifestyle – all without the five-year wait.
Perhaps one of the most impressive examples of this movement is the 66.25m Feadship HAMPSHIRE which, fresh from an extensive yard period at Barcelona’s MB92, has just been sold by Cecil Wright. The final purchase figure hasn’t been released but the asking price was a cool €85 million.

Originally delivered in just 2016 as Vanish (and sold within 90 days in 2018), she underwent what can best be described as an engineering reset, with every major system scrutinised, optimised and future-proofed, meaning her new owner can sail with the same operational assurance typically associated with a new build.
Indeed, not many would be able to reproduce her original Feadship heritage today. Designed by the esteemed Harrison Eidsgaard, HAMPSHIRE feels worlds away from the glossy minimalism currently dominating yacht design. Instead, her interiors lean into a softer, more timeless kind of luxury, best described as a contemporary New England beach house elevated to superyacht scale. There’s a soaring full-height atrium, a floating marble staircase and plenty of tactile detail, from Italian leather overheads and polished stainless-steel inlays to Tai Ping silk carpets underfoot.

As to be expected, HAMPSHIRE is a yacht that was clearly designed for entertaining, with an easy indoor-outdoor flow that makes almost every space feel connected to the sea. Case in point? The formal dining room seats up to 14 guests and opens directly onto the port deck through floor-to-ceiling windows, so we can only assume the new owner and friends will gather here for long lunches that turn into late dinners. Elsewhere, there are countless spots to disappear with a cocktail or a good book.
The owner’s suite is also a standout. Full-beam and unapologetically indulgent, it comes complete with a private lounge, a slide-out balcony and even secret access to the bridge, while guest accommodation follows the same understated aesthetic, with soft grey tones, polished wood finishes and flexible arrangements for up to 14 guests across as many as seven cabins.

And then there’s the lifestyle component, with HAMPSHIRE’s beach club channelling boutique resort energy. Home to a swim platform and enough toys to keep guests occupied for days, plus a full spa setup with a sauna, massage room and beauty space below deck, it’s the kind of setup that makes going ashore feel entirely unnecessary. Elsewhere, the sundeck hot tub and sprawling sunpads up top are the perfect resting place for a slow afternoon somewhere off the Côte d’Azur, while a dedicated gym caters to those balancing Champagne with virtue.
Of course, beneath all the polished oak and marble lies the kind of engineering pedigree that made Feadship famous in the first place. Built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, she cruises comfortably at 13 knots and comes equipped with not one but two helidecks, plus a pair of tenders for seamless arrivals and departures. Which is precisely why yachts like this are becoming so desirable. In a market where waiting lists continue to grow, HAMPSHIRE offers something increasingly rare: a proven platform, thoroughly modernised and ready to go now. It’s no surprise then that she didn’t stay on the market for long.

“The market is increasingly recognising that the ultimate luxury today is not just customisation — it is immediate access and certainty,” says Chris Cecil-Wright, founder of Cecil Wright. “With leading shipyards committed for years into the future, many sophisticated buyers are turning towards proven Northern European pedigree yachts that have been comprehensively transformed and future-proofed. HAMPSHIRE represents that shift perfectly.
“Following her extensive refit programme at MB92 and completion of her 10-year Lloyd’s survey, she offered her new buyer the operational confidence and technical assurance of a new-build project, without the multi-year wait,” he continues. “Combined with the enduring quality and craftsmanship associated with Feadship, these yachts create a very compelling proposition for buyers who value both pedigree and time.”
