The award-winning singer will perform at the Salle des Étoiles this weekend in an intimate dinner show combining music with personal storytelling.
One of music’s greats will bring a more personal kind of performance to Monaco this Sunday, when his acclaimed show An Evening with John Legend: A Night of Songs and Stories arrives at the Salle des Étoiles. Taking place on 26 July as part of the Monte-Carlo Summer Festival, the dinner show will see John Legend accompany himself on piano as he revisits songs from across his career, interspersed with memories and reflections from his life on and off stage. Rather than a conventional greatest-hits concert, the format brings audiences closer to the stories behind the music.
Among the songs likely to feature are All of Me and Ordinary People, two of the best-known releases from a catalogue that now spans 11 studio albums and more than 20 years. Legend’s elegant piano playing and gospel-rooted voice sit at the centre of the performance, which strips his music back to its most recognisable elements.
The American singer, songwriter and pianist belongs to the select group of artists to have achieved EGOT status, having received Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards during a career that has also encompassed Broadway, film and television. Yet this latest appearance returns the focus to the setting in which his work first took shape: one artist, one piano and a room ready to listen.
Legend joins a wide-ranging programme at this year’s Monte-Carlo Summer Festival, taking place at the Salle des Étoiles and Opéra Garnier until 15 August. His performance follows appearances by Jon Batiste, Jason Derulo, Aya Nakamura and Juanes, with Vanessa Paradis, Lisa Stansfield and Laura Pausini still to come.
