A specialist in private aircraft interiors and luxury mobility, F/LIST spent decades refining its craftsmanship. Its nautical division, F/YACHTING, brings that expertise to the high seas.
The most sophisticated yacht interiors rely on something close to magic, deftly hiding their complexity. Timber follows the curve of a hull, furniture fits spaces where few straight lines exist and dozens of materials come together, with the engineering behind it all remaining largely unseen.
It is a world F/LIST knows well. The Austrian company began life as a traditional carpentry workshop before developing into an international specialist in luxury interiors, refining its craft in aviation on the way to entering the yacht market in the nineties. More than 100 yacht projects later, that experience now sits within F/YACHTING, a dedicated division for interior and exterior yacht outfitting, established in 2023.
A recent standout is Shine, a 39.92 m custom motor yacht built by Dutch shipyard Van der Valk. The brief was highly personal: to create a family yacht with the finish and sense of space associated with a larger vessel, while remaining manageable for an experienced owner closely involved in life aboard.
F/YACHTING worked closely with the wider project team, collaborating with Van der Valk, Cristiano Gatto Design—the studio responsible for both the interior and exterior styling—and the owners to realise key areas of the yacht’s interior. Its work can be found across several of Shine’s principal interiors, including the main saloon and owner’s suite, as well as the bridge-deck saloon and connecting staircases.
The work extended well beyond aesthetics. Materials and furniture had to accommodate movement, weight restrictions and the practical demands of life at sea while still delivering the finish expected of a fully custom yacht. That balance is visible in the material palette, which brought together around 78 different finishes, including ebony, marble, stone and fine leather, alongside furniture made specifically for the yacht.
F/YACHTING becomes involved early in the design process, working alongside owners, designers and shipyards before construction begins. This allows material choices and technical considerations to be addressed as the design evolves; its F/LAB innovation division also develops new surfaces, materials and mechanisms for use in challenging marine environments. Shine’s success lies in how little of that complexity is visible to the owner. And that’s not an easy trick to master.
