The Principality’s new and exclusive cigar lounge offers luxury smokes and drink pairings in a captivating setting.
Back in 1877, the visionary founder of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), François Blanc, proclaimed he wanted the fledgling district bearing his organisation’s name to offer “dreams, pleasures and beauty”. To this day, those prophetic words live on throughout the group; no more so than at the Monte-Carlo Cigar Club, an establishment which embodies the Principality’s refined way of life.
After several months of meticulous renovations, the new private club opened its doors to members on May 19th. The Monte-Carlo Cigar Club was inaugurated by H.S.H. Prince Albert II, in the presence of the directors of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, Dominique Gyselinck, CEO of Dominique London and many personalities from the Principality and the world of cigars.

The venue promises to be one of the world’s pre-eminent destinations for cigar connoisseurs. Established by SBM in collaboration with Dominique London, a renowned name in luxury cigars and spirits, the club will offer members an unparalleled experience, located in the heart of the iconic Casino de Monte-Carlo.
So, what can patrons expect? Here, we speak exclusively to Jean Thomas, director of the Monte-Carlo Cigar Club, to find out.
Congratulations on the opening of the Monte-Carlo Cigar Club. What was the original vision?
It was envisioned as one of the world’s most exclusive sanctuaries for discerning cigar aficionados. Nestled on the upper floor of the Casino de Monte-Carlo’s iconic Atrium, its rarefied location, curated selection and restricted access set it apart. The club is a refined blend of heritage, savoir-faire and intimacy, destined to become a pilgrimage site for global connoisseurs seeking excellence and elegance. Who is the club aimed at? Access is reserved exclusively for privileged members and select guests of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer establishments. The club reflects years of dedication to preserving and elevating cigar culture in all its dimensions.
How do you think the club will lead Monaco’s burgeoning cigars scene?
The global perception of cigars is evolving, and Monaco mirrors this transformation. Today’s cigar enthusiast is no longer confined to the traditional image of the seasoned epicurean. A new, younger generation is embracing cigars—not only from Cuba, but from Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras and the Dominican Republic, each offering distinctive terroirs, aromas, and craftsmanship, akin to the worlds of wine and spirits.
At La Casa del Tabaco, we see a growing number of these curious and cultivated newcomers, while seasoned clients continue to seek rare and prestigious pieces—Cohiba, Trinidad, Oliva—with equal discernment for their accessories. The Monte-Carlo Cigar Club is poised to become the epicentre of this renaissance, a haven where appreciation meets sophistication.

Are there any exclusives that can’t be found anywhere else?
The Monte-Carlo Cigar Club offers an unparalleled collection, exclusive in both its breadth and depth. With 276 distinct cigar references—including the full spectrum of both Cuban and New World brands—and the number individual cigars available, this level of diversity and volume is unmatched not only in Monaco but across the globe. Tell us about the cigar sommelier service.
Our cigar sommeliers are more than guides; they are custodians of an art form. With refined expertise, they escort members through curated pairings, offering sensory journeys that explore both palette and provenance. From terroir discovery to drink harmonies, they create moments of elevation. Our bartenders complement this with bespoke pairings—whether a rare vintage rum or a finely aged spirit—crafted to enhance the cigar experience.

And what about the design of the club? What can we expect?
Conceived by the celebrated duo Bruno Moinard and Claire Bétaille, the club is a tribute to timeless luxury. Inspired by Charles Garnier’s architectural grandeur, the interiors merge historical reverence with contemporary sophistication. Rich tobacco tones, pleated leather and fine woodwork shape an immersive, sensorial environment. Natural light caresses the space through tall glass partitions, while sculptural elements, bronze flourishes and mirrored accents create a layered, luminous ambiance. The fumoir, with its deep armchairs and colourcoded lockers, invites contemplation, while the onyx-clad bar—framed by cigar-inspired vitrines—serves as a glowing centrepiece. Hidden within, a bespoke humidor seals this world of distinction.
Are there any special events coming up soon?
This summer, members will enjoy curated cigar tastings guided by expert sommeliers, including three-part Cuban cigar discovery sessions. Exclusive pairings will highlight perfect matches between cigars and spirits, Champagne or even non-alcoholic drinks like tea or chocolate—each selected to create a harmonious experience. Gastronomic evenings featuring delicacies such as caviar or foie gras will further enrich the programme. The club will also host private member events, as well as intimate off-site gatherings and bespoke cigar-themed travel experiences.
